Danny Roth

Danny Roth is a Jewish educator and active performing musician. A native of Los Angeles and graduate of U.C. Berkeley, Danny moved to Israel in 1990, where he subsequently studied at the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies, Shapell's College of Jewish Studies, and the Gruss Kollel of Yeshiva University, receiving rabbinic ordination from Rabbi Zalman Nechemia Goldberg of Jerusalem. Danny has been involved as a Jewish educator in a number of programs in Israel for overseas students and in leadership training seminars. As a musician, Danny is an accomplished drummer. He has recorded and performed around the world with many popular Jewish artists. In addition to Reva L'Sheva, Danny has recorded and performed with Reb Shlomo Carlebach, the Moshav Band, Neshama Carlebach, Shlomo Gronich, and Peter Himmelman. In his playing, he aims to draw inspiration from a deep, soulful place so that the music can reach a deep, soulful place in others. That is the heart of Jewish music. As a performer, he aspires to reach eit ratzon, a state when everyone connects to something higher and all of the elements blend together in a way such that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. He views rhythm as a unifying force and thus sees his role as drummer as providing the "glue" of the music. When everyone locks into the groove, then each player not only contributes to the whole, but becomes the whole.

Danny received an M.B.A. in Nonprofit Management and Jewish Leadership from the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya, Israel, and co-founded Artists and Musicians for Israel (A.M.I.), a unique educational project that uses music and the arts as conduits of community-building, centered on the theme of Israel.
